What is seevolution?

Seevolution started its days as "A time machine for evolution", and its main goal is to show you the the changes throught time that are necessary for a certain species to evolve into a different one. Of course, you could do this before we wrote seevolution, but it involved looking at extremely long, extremely boring text files and required a very good imagination. Now you have an excuse to be lazy, who wants to imagine chromosomes when seevolution can do it for you?

Now you can understand and explain the basics of how evolution works just by looking at a screen, display information easily on 3D models and traverse phylogenetic trees just with a click. And it's a lot prettier than text files!

Features

Cool 3D models of circular and linear chromosomes.
Inversions, transpositions, insertions, deletions, gene conversions, nucleotide substitutions... and more mutations to come very soon!
Several coloring schemes that will help you see what you need: solid blocks, gradients and even arbitraty heatmaps.
Accepts complete phylogenetic trees and lets you trace your path between any two points while showing you the changes.
Easy to generate XML input format, which we hope will turn into a standard to describe mutation events on a phylogenetic tree.
Everything can be customized to your liking: colors, shapes, visual appearance of the chromosome, animation times...

Today I've been trying to make the application available through WebStart, and after several unsuccessful attempts I think I've made it work.
